What our clients say
“Taniqua was an amazing night doula for our little girl, she came with a calm and happy energy each evening and we loved her so much we also added some day hours as well. Not only was our little girl in great and experienced hands, we felt very seen as new parents and learned a lot from Taniqua every time we saw her. She has a wonderful way of both honoring our wishes with tracking bottles and diapers but also noticed patterns much faster than we would have (turns out, our little girl wanted bottles warmer than we were making them!).”
Meet our owner
Liz is a seasoned, experienced, certified birth doula and an experienced childbirth educator serving Northern Virginia, Washington DC and Maryland. In 2004 she obtained a Bachelors of Science in Applied Economics and a Minor in Business Management from East Carolina University. She then enjoyed an administrative position at a North Carolina hospital where she spent much of my time learning about hospital policy, understanding procedures and language and (literally) chasing doctors, midwives and nurses around for reviews and signatures. This job was actually the first catalyst to changing directions in her career. She loved everything about being on the floor of the hospital; learning, seeing and chatting… however she hated going back to her office!
During the birth of Liz’s first baby she noticed first hand the lack of unbiased support in the birthing system. This birth was not horrible by any means… but there was no possible way the providers could give her the continuous support she needed. This was her second catalyst into a career shift. She vividly remembers holding a nursing infant and searching “support during birth” and the word “doula” popped up!
Shortly after this Liz trained as a birth doula and certified through DONA (Doulas of North America). Since then she has had the opportunity to train with many amazing people and organizations. She is a certified Hypno-Doula with HypnoBabies, trained by the amazing Gail Tulley in her famous Spinning Babies techniques and trained by Gena Kirby to help enhance pregnancy and birth by utilizing rebozo techniques.
The passion that drives Liz also fills her calendar with regular continuing education workshops… keeping her up to date and knowledgeable about things that might affect the families we work with.
She enjoys working with families through pregnancy, birth and post partum and has a huge passion for family centered birthing. Liz believes that the key to a positive experience during these life changing events is having the tools to make informed and educated decisions coupled with a calm and positive mindset. She also believes that good communication is the foundation to any healthy relationship..
Elizabeth prides herself on being supportive, empathetic and non-judgmental when it comes to working with families during their own journey towards parenthood.
As a certified birth doula serving Washington DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia, Liz has experience and is comfortable working with many different Obstetricians and Midwives and has attended births at the majority of local hospitals such as George Washington University Hospital, Washington Hospital Center, Virginia Hospital Center, Ft. Belvoir, INOVA Alexandria, Inova Fairfax, Fair Oaks, Louden, Sibley, Prince William Hospital and many more.
When Liz is not working, she enjoys spending time gardening and low key time at home with her four children and husband. As a self proclaimed A-type, she also unapologetically enjoys cleaning and organizing!
