Welcome back to “Eat my WHAT?” – Part II.
(Missed Part I? Check it out here.) Now, let’s get down to it.
Why? Why on earth would you eat your placenta? Quite simply, because it may help ease your transition into postpartum.
Some commonly reported (and very welcomed!) benefits to consuming your placenta include:
- replenished minerals, nutrients, and hormones (like iron, hemoglobin, prolactin and CRH – Corticotropin Releasing Hormone)
- decreased fatigue/increased energy
- boost in milk production
- reduction in baby blues/postpartum depression symptoms
- reduction in postpartum bleeding
You may be thinking, “Ok, that I can do! But how? How do we get from organ to pill?”
You bring your placenta home and your placenta encapsulator comes to you. Over the course of two days, she’ll bring everything that’s needed to process it, leaving you with the responsibility of resting and getting to know your new baby. Because we only process in our clients’ homes, your placenta will never leave your possession and you will have additional access to and support from your doula or encapsulator if you’d like.
All of our encapsulators follow strict OSHA protocols when it comes to safety and processing your placenta.
You may choose from two methods of encapsulation: raw or traditional. The raw method involves rinsing your placenta, cubing and dehydrating it, blending it into a fine powder and then putting the powder into vegan, kosher capsules. The traditional method is the same, but adds a steam bath with fresh ingredients. This method is often used when wanting to reintroduce warmth back into the body and/or for women who may experience anxiety. No matter the method you choose, the end result will be a lovely jar of “VItamin P” – your very own all-natural, organic supplement.
